ARTIST’S STATEMENT: As a young child, I was fascinated by the colorful glass which was the artistic medium my father used in creating art made with glass. Growing up, I continued to enjoy color and painted abstract designs with my giant set of magic markers. My pictures intertwined with colorful abstraction. As I grew older, I found myself drawn to artistic exploration of different mediums.
I have always been attracted to the presence of colors and shapes in various visual environments. Growing up, I was fortunate to live in New York City and also spend time in New Hampshire. The contrast of the two environments allowed me the experience of urban city life and rural countryside. Urban and rural have both affected me and have influenced my art. Exposure to both has broadened my understanding of life.
My paintings are in a variety of media. The transparency of watercolor may allow for one expression of form, color and light whereas the creamy texture of oil paint or pastel may allow for another. My art celebrates life through the visual expression of the fine arts. Through each medium, I am able to visually portray the varieties of energy within all subjects. I enjoy painting landscapes, florals and animal portraiture. For me, painting is a way of appreciating the essence of life.
