Danielle Auriemma-D`Amico
Danielle Auriemma was born and raised in Union, New Jersey. She enjoyed doing anything creative from early on and was nurtured by parents who supported her interest in the arts. It wasn't until the age of 30, however, that she began attending classes at The Art Students League and Parsons School of Design , both of Manhattan. These classes confirmed what she always knew. The very first moment she first stepped into the studio, she knew instinctively that the art world was home, and that it wasn't too late. After five years of undergoing classes full time, working part time, and caring for her sick mother, with the support of her husband Frank, Danielle attained her goal of earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with concentration in Illustration from The School of Visual Arts in New York City.
Danielle works in traditional mediums, she paints portraits in charcoal or oil and house portraits in watercolor. Ms. Auriemma-D`Amico`s images convey a slightly stylized realism. "Less is more," with her often muted monochromatic or limited palette. Her cropped images put the subject "in your face," giving the viewer an initial dramatic jolt, followed by an emotional connection. Since Danielle was trained as a commercial artist, her subject matter varies, but the pieces closest to her heart are from her travels and depict the spirit of places once visited. Danielle's biggest influences are artists such as Georgia O'Keefe, and Caravaggio. This is evident by her technique of either eliminating or limiting the backgrounds so that the focus remains on the primary figure, thus reducing her compositions to simplified form.
Now an award winning artist, Ms. Auriemma-D'Amico's work has been published internationally and she regularly exhibits throughout the United States. She is currently working as a freelance Illustrator and Fine Artist and Portrait Artist out of Gillette, NJ.
